Saturday evening, Khalid, 40 years old and illegally staying in Belgium, was arrested in the Sainte-Marguerite district of Liège. The man appeared to be under the influence of drugs. On several occasions, witnesses saw him walking around shirtless and threatening the owner of a café on rue Sainte-Marguerite in Liège. The first time, around 1 p.m., with a broken bottle. A second time, around 5 p.m., with a knife. And a third time, shortly following 9 p.m., once more with a knife.
It was during his third visit that a police patrol which was in the neighborhood intervened. The police ordered Khalid not to move and asked him to put down his weapon. Once disarmed, he was arrested. He was deprived of his liberty and spent the night from Saturday to Sunday in a cell. Sunday morning, he was made available to the Liège public prosecutor’s office.
Khalid is well known to the courts since he has already been sentenced, in 2021, to eight months in prison for threats with a weapon and, still in 2021, to one year in prison because he was once once more armed.
Not reassured to see Khalid wandering in nature like this, the magistrate at the Liège public prosecutor’s office requested an arrest warrant from the investigating judge on duty.
