The arrest of three people suspected of terrorism in Vienna also shows that the international cooperation of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution works in a closely coordinated manner.
At the same time, the head of government emphasized in a broadcast that they would not allow themselves to be intimidated: “Let me be clear to those who threaten us: we will not allow our joy and our Christian culture to be jeopardized. We continue to live our tradition with great enthusiasm and we will we will continue to do so in the future.”
Three terror suspects in custody
On Monday, the Regional Court for Criminal Matters imposed pre-trial detention on three terror suspects who were arrested by special police forces in a refugee accommodation in Vienna-Ottakring before Christmas. They are said to belong to a cross-country radical Islamist terror network that is said to have considered attacks on Cologne Cathedral and St. Stephen’s Cathedral. The three suspected terrorists – two men and a woman – deny the allegations. A suspect lodged a complaint once morest his pre-trial detention.

The public prosecutor’s office is investigating the trio for terrorist association (§278b StGB) in connection with terrorist crimes (§278c StGB). During a house search, data carriers – including their cell phones – were seized from the three suspected Islamists and are now being evaluated.
