Danger of severe weather not averted: Thunderstorms will return on Friday

After heavy storms swept across the country on Wednesday as predicted, Thursday will remain largely calm. “Today we expect more stable weather in large parts of the country,” says Christian Ortner from Geosphere Austria. The storms are more likely to affect the southern federal states today. “Smaller thunderstorms may form in the south of Upper Austria.” However, this is the exception.

Tomorrow, Friday, the situation will look completely different once more. “Similar scenarios to Wednesday are possible,” says the meteorologist. “I think that tomorrow we will issue the orange warning level once more. It will be bad once more.” The details will be finalized on Friday morning. The thunderstorms are expected to be severe, but may move over the southwest with heavy rain and gusts of wind over Upper Austria as early as mid-followingnoon. Hail is also not ruled out. For outdoor events taking place on Friday evening, there is a chance that the thunderstorms will already be over.

Relaxation over the weekend

The situation will ease once more on Saturday. “It looks as if it will be a little cooler and, above all, more stable.” There will only be isolated thunderstorms. From today’s perspective, Sunday will be thunderstorm-free.

Ortner can already give a rough forecast for the coming week. Monday will be very hot. From the current perspective, thunderstorms are likely to return, possibly as early as Monday evening and into Tuesday night, but at the latest on Tuesday and Wednesday.
