Danger of black ice in Bavaria – school closures in northern Bavaria

While the danger of black ice is decreasing in large parts of Germany, many people in the Free State have to continue to prepare for it on Tuesday. There is a warning from the German Weather Service (DWD) (warning level 2) for ice in particular for districts in northern Bavaria.

According to the DWD, behavior on the road must be adjusted and delays and obstructions in traffic must be planned for.

No face-to-face classes in Bad-Kissingen, Rhön-Grabfeld, Tirschenreuth, Main-Spessart

In some districts, face-to-face classes are canceled today due to the high risk of black ice. According to the current status, this applies to all schools in the district of Main-Spessart, Bad Kissingen and in the district of Rhön-Grabfeld. However, emergency care is available everywhere. There should be distance learning in the schools in the Rhön-Grabfeld and Bad-Kissingen districts. In the Main-Spessart district, some distance classes are also offered.

The schools in the Tirschenreuth district are also closed today. “Offers of distance learning” are taking place, according to the website of the Tirschenreuth school authority.

School buses canceled in Neustadt an der Aisch – Bad Windsheim

In the district of Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim, the school bus routes do not run in parts of the district. Affected are: Uffenheim and Lipprichhausen as well as Uehlfeld and the Steigerwald with Scheinfeld. For the students affected, there should be some distance teaching instead.

In the city and district of Würzburg, some schools are also no longer teaching, including in Waldbüttelbrunn and Höchberg. Since in some places an accident-free way to school is not possible, the parents can decide whether they want to send their children to school or not, according to the Würzburg State Education Authority. Emergency care always takes place, distance learning as far as possible.

Rainy area over northern Bavaria causes black ice

The reason for the warnings is a new rainy area over northern Bavaria and southern Thuringia, as a DWD meteorologist said. The rain moving east might fall once more on frozen ground during the night and in the morning and quickly cause dangerous black ice on the roads. Storms cannot be ruled out.

The DWD is also warning of ice and frost (warning level 1) for the rest of the Free State until the morning. There is an increased risk of slipping. Behavior on the road should be adjusted.
