A Dallas County, Missouri man accused of murdering a woman whose remains were found in a home following she was photographed partially clothed in a cage, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to reports. .

FOX 4 in Kansas City, Missouri, reported that James Phelps, 60, pleaded guilty Friday, acknowledging that there’s enough evidence to convict him of first-degree murder, kidnapping, and abandonment of a dead body.

Phelps and Timothy Norton were charged with killing 33-year-old Cassie Rainwater in September 2021 following DNA analysis of remains found at Phelps’ home identified the victim.

Photos provided to investigators by the FBI on September 16 showed Rainwater’s body strapped to a gantry crane, which is used primarily for processing deer, as well as its “disembowelment and dismemberment,” the County Sheriff’s Department said. Dallas in a Facebook post.

The Sheriff’s Office said recovered digital evidence revealed that Phelps and Norton were planning Rainwater’s death.

Rainwater was first reported missing on August 25, 2021 by a woman who told authorities Rainwater was last seen with Phelps in July.

Phelps told investigators that Rainwater would stay with him until he was able to get back on his feet, mentioning that he was going to Chicago.

A month before she went missing, Phelps told investigators that Rainwater met someone in a vehicle at the end of her driveway and left in the middle of the night.

Once Rainwater was dead, both men carried the body outside, they tied her to the gantry crane and dismembered her body, Norton told investigators.

On October 4, a fire ultimately ruled an arson destroyed Phelps’ home, and officials investigating the fire found two explosive devices made from mortar tubes and tripwire balloon casings attached near the home.

Norton faces the same charges as Phelps and is scheduled for a court hearing this week.

In other developments, a homeless man was arrested Tuesday, April 25, following being charged with shooting a driver in Miami-Dade County, authorities confirmed.

According to Miami-Dade police, officers responded to a shooting around 8:00 p.m. in a parking lot near the 14000 block of Northeast Fifth Place.

According to an arrest report, A victim was sitting in his vehicle when he was approached by a homeless man named Tommy Lenz Exantus, 27, who opened the driver’s side door and pulled out a gun. In response to Exantus pulling out a gun, the driver also pulled out a firearm and shots were exchanged, according to police.

Investigators said that following speaking with the victim Tuesday night, they were able to identify Exantus.

The robbery interdiction team apprehended Exantus and transported him to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center for processing.

Until now, He faces one count of attempted murder with a firearm and one count of possession of a weapon while committing a crime. The investigation is still ongoing and its final sentence is expected in the coming days.
