In January 2021, OpenAI introduced DALL-E then made the beta version of DALL-E 2 accessible in July 2022. The start-up’s researchers are currently testing and evaluating the third iteration of the model which will be accessible in October to customers who have subscribed to the ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise offers, via the OpenAI API. A focus on safety
Open AI had limited DALL·E 2’s ability to generate violent, hateful, or adult images and used advanced techniques to prevent photorealistic generations of real faces of individuals, including those of public or political figures. To reduce bias, a new technique had been implemented to generate images of people more representative of the diversity of the world’s population.
These metrics, which have since been improved, are being applied to DALL-E 3. The research team is also exploring ways to help users identify AI-generated images, using a provenance classification tool .
Creativity under control
DALL·E 3 was designed to respond to image requests in the style of a living artist, thus preserving the integrity of artistic creations.
Images created with DALL·E 3 are the property of the users, who do not need authorization to reproduce or commercialize them. They also have the option to remove their images from the training process of future image generation models.
OpenAI has not revealed whether or not it intends to make the model free subsequently, it will nevertheless be possible to use it without having subscribed to the ChatGPT Plus or Enterprise offers since Microsoft has announced its upcoming integration with Bing Chat.
