Together with a delegation from the European Parliament, Bad Ischl MEP Hannes Heide (SPÖ) visited the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of the Tibetans, in his Indian exile in Dharamsala at the weekend. He presented him with salt from the Salzkammergut and an invitation from Bad Ischl’s mayor Ines Schiller (SPÖ).
The 88-year-old already knows Bad Ischl. 25 years ago he visited the Salzkammergut metropolis at the invitation of the then mayor Helmut Haas (SPÖ). At that time Hubert von Goisern and Tseten Zöchbauer, activist for a free Tibet, brought him the invitation.
Heide pointed out to the Dalai Lama that the year of the European Capital of Culture 2024 would offer the opportunity for a cultural exchange with Tibetan artists. The Bad Ischl politician reports on an “inspiring encounter” that was also a “spiritual experience” for him.
