The head of Dagestan Sergei Melikov on the night of October 31 published in his official telegram channel a video message to all citizens of the republic. In it, he assessed the events that occurred in Makhachkala on October 29.

Recall that on Sunday a crowd of people broke into the terminals and onto the runway of Uytash Airport following the arrival of a Red Wings plane from Tel Aviv. It is assumed that the dissatisfied wanted to find the arriving Israeli citizens. According to the latest data, 20 people were injured as a result of the riots, 9 of whom were police officers. The Ministry of Internal Affairs opened a criminal case for organizing mass riots. Law enforcement agencies detained more than 80 people.

“There were 9 children on board yesterday’s flight, 7 of whom were returning from treatment. They hid in fear on the plane and will not forget the horror they experienced for a long time. Could the Dagestanis do this? No. The marginalized people who caused these riots are not the Dagestani people,” Melikov argues in a short video.

Melikov accused the attack participants of “dancing to the enemy’s tune.” He called what happened an attempt to split Russian society.

“On enemy resources these days, militant calls were spread once morest one of our indigenous peoples – Mountain Jews, who have been living in Dagestan for many centuries. These are the same Dagestanis as you and me. They made an invaluable contribution to our common culture and history. We will not allow anyone to infringe on the rights of our fellow countrymen. Any such attempts will be brutally suppressed,” Melikov outlined his position.

The head of Dagestan also called on the older generation to “restrain young people from unworthy acts.” At the end of his speech, Melikov was stern and categorical.

“There will be no leniency for any of the perpetrators; criminal cases have already been initiated in many cases,” he said.

Earlier on October 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke regarding the events in Makhachkala. He stated that mass unrest in Dagestan was provoked using social networks, including from the territory of Ukraine.
