Daewoo Shipbuilding’s subcontract strike is a touch of public power… No-no conflict continues

As the strike of subcontractor workers of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering is prolonged, the government is stating that it is illegal to sit on ships, so there is a sense of whether or not public power will be used.

The union of regular workers in Woncheong is calling for an end to the strike, so it appears that there is a conflict between the unions.

Subcontractor workers affiliated with the Federation of Trade Unions of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering are demanding the reinstatement of wages that have been cut by 30% over the past five years and recognition of the union’s predecessors.

The ship has been on strike since the 22nd of last month, and some union members have entered into an indefinite hunger strike.

Here, there is a prospect that the government will step in and make it illegal to exercise governmental power and make it a reality.

The police are conducting an investigation with the application for an arrest warrant in mind for union members who are protesting.

However, as there is a possibility of a safety accident due to a physical collision, the burden of enforcement is high.

“Some members are blocking the entrance to the ship, so it is impossible to access the ship itself, so the risk of health and safety accidents is very high.”

In the midst of this, full-time employees of DSME are urging the strike to stop, and so-called conflicts between labor unions are emerging.

In the aftermath of the prolonged strike, about 400 full-time employees of the primary office decided to close on the 18th and 19th.
