Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) expected to suspend the use of public power… Related discussions continue

Police once installed air mats at farmhouses, ‘sense of tension’… “Preparing for emergencies”

In relation to the strike of the subcontractor union of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, which celebrated its 50th day, the use of police force is expected to be put on hold.

According to Yonhap News coverage on the 21st, the police strongly considered the introduction of large-scale police personnel if labor-management negotiations with subcontractors broke down on that day.

In the followingnoon of the same day, an air mat was installed near the farmhouse, and a sense of crisis was created among the unions as to whether the police force was imminent.

However, as the negotiations proceeded in a hopeful atmosphere and expectations for a settlement increased, it is known that it is rather premature to exercise public power now.

In addition, it was decided to review the timing of the police manpower input due to overlapping variables, such as the Justice Party starting a tent demonstration at the west gate of Daewoo Shipbuilding from the 22nd and the Hope Bus heading to Geoje on the 23rd.

It was judged that, if an unreasonable demonstration was attempted, unexpected damage might occur by provoking stronger protests from the members of the tent and hopeful bus.

However, necessary manpower, such as preventing collisions due to ‘no-no conflict’ and checking farm growth safety, will be put into DSME.

A police official said, “We will have to monitor the situation, but the immediate use of public power is in fact delayed.”
