The Dabeiba Mayor’s Office has made an urgent call to increase search efforts to find Elsy Carpía Pernía, a 12-year-old girl who has been missing since July 14.
The request comes after the local indigenous community and the minor’s relatives blocked the Medellín Urabá highway on two occasions to demand progress in the investigation.
Elsy Carpía Pernía, who disappeared in the Godó area, has been the focus of an intense search by her community, however, so far no concrete results have been obtained.
In response to the protests, Dabeiba Mayor Daniel Higuita, along with officials from the Antioquia Governorate, met with protesters to discuss further measures.
Public order
The mayor stressed the need for greater collaboration between all institutions at the departmental and national levels to find the minor.
“The intensification of search efforts is crucial. We need the full cooperation of local and national authorities to solve this case and return Elsy to her family,” Mayor Higuita stressed during the meeting with the community.
The blockades on the Medellín Urabá highway, carried out on Thursday and Friday, also included demands that Alexander Cano Cartagena, who has been arrested and is linked to the disappearance, provide information on the whereabouts of the girl.
The community has insisted that, despite the search efforts made, no relevant clues have been obtained.
The Antioquia Governorate has offered a reward of up to 50 million pesos for anyone who provides information on the whereabouts of Elsy Carpía. The Prosecutor’s Office has indicated that, according to preliminary investigations, Cartagena was seen transporting the minor on a motorcycle in the Cañón de la Llorona in the early hours of July 14.
The situation remains critical and both the community and the authorities expect significant progress in the search for the minor.
