The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) took advantage of the momentum of holding the Indonesian Trade Expo by holding the D8 Business Forum.

The D8 Economic Forum (Development 8 Economic Forum) is a group of countries consisting of Indonesia, Turkey, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Iran, Pakistan, Nigeria and Malaysia which represents more than 1.1 billion people with a Muslim majority.

According to the Director General of International Trade Negotiations at the Ministry of Trade, Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, Indonesia views D8 as important because Indonesia has ratified the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) that applies to this group of countries.

Indonesia, he said, had implemented the D-8 PTA and succeeded in increasing exports by US$4.5 million.

Djatmiko also asked the D-8 countries to continue identifying trade sector challenges that will occur in the future. “I believe this forum will help identify ways to overcome various challenges faced by the business world and lead to practical solutions,” said Djatmiko in a statement in Jakarta, Tuesday (15/10).

Chair of the D8 Business Forum Committee, Irawati Hermawan, explained that the D8 Business Forum was attended by heads of chambers of commerce from D8 countries. “With special invited guests, Secretary General D8 Ambassador Isiaka Abdulkadir Imam,” said Irawati.

D8 Secretary General Isiaka Abdulkadir Imam in his speech appreciated the holding of the D8 Business Forum by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and hoped that the same forum would be held in other D8 countries.

One of the important resolutions in this business forum is the proposal to establish a D8 Development Bank to support the development of D8 countries and entrepreneurs in these countries. (Ant/N-2)
