D. Tusk can be sworn in as the Prime Minister of Poland as soon as next week, the official says

According to him, President Andrzej Duda could swear in D. Tusk on December 13 or 14.

After the October 15th general election, incumbent Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s right-wing Law and Justice (PiS) party came in first, but did not win a clear majority and had little chance of forming a coalition.

As the agenda of the Seimas shows, on Monday M. Morawiecki, who is tasked with forming a new government after the October elections, will present his policy to the lower house of parliament.

After this speech, parliamentarians will have to vote on confidence in his cabinet, presented at the end of November, but the opposition has a majority in the Seimas, so M. Morawiecki will probably lose this vote.

If this happens, the parliamentarians will choose their candidate for prime minister.

Opposition leader Tusk’s liberal Civic Coalition bloc came second in the election, but together with two smaller parties, the centrist Third Way and the Left Party, secured a majority of 248 lawmakers in the 460-seat parliament.

The leaders of the three opposition factions want Tusk to lead their government and want him to take office as soon as possible. Therefore, their candidate would present his program already on December 12.

According to W. Kolarskis, the swearing-in ceremony can be held in the coming days.

“When preparing the calendar for next week, we take various scenarios into account,” said W. Kolarskis. – If the newly elected Prime Minister so wishes, December 14 is also a possible option. A morning time is also possible, given that the European Council starts in the evening.”

On December 12, A. Duda returns from Switzerland, where he will deliver a speech at the United Nations meeting dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Human Rights.

“This trip has been planned for a long time,” the official said, adding that December 13 is the earliest possible date for the swearing-in ceremony.

However, in Poland that day marks the anniversary of the introduction of martial law. On December 13, 1981, the then communist government in Poland announced the introduction of martial law in the country.

D. Tusk, a former prime minister of Poland and former head of the European Council, accused A. Duda of playing for time by giving PiS the chance to form a government.

D. Tuskas served as the Polish Prime Minister until 2014. The following year, PiS won the general election and has been in power ever since.
