In 2017, Marta Kubišová received a nightingale for personality as an honor at the end of her career. She officially did this on November 1 of the same year with a concert in her native České Budějovice on her seventy-fifth birthday.
TV Nova will broadcast the award ceremony live this year. The evening will be performed by Ondřej Sokol and Aleš Háma.
The organizers also announced the names of some of the performers. After more than ten years, Tomáš Klus will appear on stage, singing the song Dokola. In 2013, he declared that he was withdrawing from the poll, due to the elimination of the rapper Řezník from the competition, and because he believes that the behavior of the organizers was immoral. He asked fans to send texts to charity instead.
“The nightingales are now free and I decided to return to them. I’m looking forward to meeting people from music,” Klus explained to Novinkám.

The Nightingale Chronicles: A Hoot of a Celebration!
Gather ’round, my dear music lovers! It seems the stars have aligned once again for the Czech Nightingale awards, and it’s shaping up to be an evening of pure entertainment. Just when you thought your calendar couldn’t handle any more excitement, they dish out a *nightingale* award like it’s a free sample at Costco.
Honoring a Legend
Let’s talk about the magnificent Marta Kubišová, who received her crowning glory—a nightingale for her personality, no less! She wrapped up her illustrious career just as you join that “I-can’t-take-much-more-faith-in-this-guy” phase at 75! Talk about timing. She celebrated with a concert on her birthday in the stunning town of České Budějovice. Little did she know that the crowds were there not just for her music but also for a chance to witness the unfolding drama—that’s what we really love!
A Star-Studded Event on TV Nova
This year, get ready to brush your hair and put on your best “I’m definitely not in my pajamas” outfit because TV Nova is broadcasting the awards live! Yes, indeed! Grab your popcorn, and let’s hope it’s not a repeat of last year’s awkward dance moves, shall we? Our dynamic duo, Ondřej Sokol and Aleš Háma, will be hosting, so expect sharp quips and maybe a few too many dad jokes. You’ve been warned!
Tomáš Klus RETURNS!
Hold on to your hats, folks, because after a ten-year hiatus, Tomáš Klus is back on stage! You remember him, right? The guy who took a stand against the elimination of rapper Řezník from the competition in 2013. Talk about a moral dilemma! But now he’s returned to the scene, stating, “The nightingales are now free!” I presume he means the birds, not those of us still trapped in our childhood bedrooms.
Who Else Will Hit the Stage?
In more star-studded news, expect performances from Mirai with their summer anthem “Summer Love,” which is apparently a song that will get stuck in your head like a bad rash. And then we have a trio of legends, including Marie Rottrová and Marek Ztracený. This is going to be an evening filled with nostalgia, toe-tapping, and—let’s be honest—plenty of embarrassing singing along from the audience.
New Sounds and Old Classics
Don’t miss Michal David, who’ll be debuting a brand-new song from his album recorded with Robbie Williams’ band. When was the last time Robbie Williams dropped by your local studio? I’d say that’s a step up from any old recording, but sadly no one will be throwing confetti at him, unless the stage crew is feeling generous!
And hey, did I mention they’re bringing back the cult classic, Jesus Christ Superstar? Thirty years since it first graced our lives, we’ll see the fabulous pillars of the production Kamil Střihavka, Bára Basiková, and Dan Bárta take to the stage. Imagine all the high notes—they might just break the glass ceiling with those pipes!
Your Time to Shine!
For the fans out there, the time to vote is nearly upon us, and you’ve got until November 17 to let your voice be heard. Will Ewa Farna and her hair make a comeback? Who knows? But one thing’s for sure, the Czech Nightingale awards are always filled with standing ovations, laughter, heartfelt moments, and yes, likely a few awkward on-stage moments. Who doesn’t love some good old-fashioned cringe?
So let’s tune in and hope for a night full of laughter, tears, and memories as the Czech music scene showcases its might once more! Who needs reality TV when you can have the dazzling spectacle of the Nightingale Awards, right?
