Czech Mobile Phone Market Q3 2024: Samsung Leads Amid Xiaomi and Google’s Rise

Table of Contents

  • Even in the third quarter, the best-selling manufacturer in the Czech Republic is the Korean Samsung
  • However, its sales fell during the summer, benefiting China’s Xiaomi‘s Redmi brand
  • Impressive results are also demonstrated by Infinix or the old-new manufacturer Google

The GfK agency, which deals with market research, has published new figures on the sales of mobile phones on the Czech market for the third quarter of 2024. South Korean Samsung holds the top spot, but its influence is constantly declining in favor of Xiaomi and Apple. Infinix and Honor recorded an impressive increase in sales, a big surprise was the old-new manufacturer in the Czech Republic – the American Google with its Pixel smartphone series.

Samsung still first

The gold, silver and bronze positions in mobile phone sales on the Czech market still belong to the same Samsung-Xiaomi-Apple triumvirate. The question is how these manufacturers will maintain their ranking among themselves. According to data from the third quarter, although Samsung is still the first, its position is the least certain it has been in the last year.

In the months of July, August and September, Samsung sold 256,007 phones and ended up with a 33% market share. Since the beginning of the year, it has already sold over 860,000 mobile phones (out of a total of 2.049 million units), which is 80,000 more than in the same period last year. Nevertheless, this is a decrease compared to previous quarters. In the first quarter of the year, it even had a market share of 41.2%. So the data confirms that the Galaxy S and Galaxy A models are more popular with customers than the Galaxy Z jigsaws.

Jigsaw puzzles are not as popular as conventional phones

In second place are the phones of the Redmi brand, which is an offshoot of Xiaomi for less demanding customers. Redmi phones hold around 24% of the market share, with Xiaomi selling 140,160 of them under the mentioned brand in the given period. This clearly demonstrates the power of Redmi as a brand – compared to Xiaomi flagships (1.6% share) and Poco models (0 share .9%) is a definite success.

American Apple remained third. Its sales in September 2024 (47,316 mobile phones sold) were significantly influenced by the premiere of the new iPhone 16. For the entire period, we are talking about 133,334 phones sold and a market share of 21.9%. Autumn and the subsequent Christmas season are very important for Apple, so it is likely that the number of iPhones sold will increase in October, November and December, and Apple will overtake Xiaomi and Redmi respectively.

The fight between Infinix and Honor

Just below the level of the mentioned triumvirate is the American-Chinese Motorola, which has been oscillating around a 5% market share for a long time. In the period we are talking about, it managed to sell 34,449 phones. However, the statistics show an interesting downward trend: September 10,901 units, August 11,288 units, July 12,260 units. The premiere of the Edge 50 and 50 Neo models surprisingly did not have a positive impact on sales.

Don’t overlook

The best-selling mobile phones in the Czech Republic: every other one is from China, the ruler is still Samsung

The battle between two Chinese companies has been going on for almost a year at the border of the top 5 sellers. According to the latest data, Infinix maintained the 5th position when it managed to sell 83 more phones than Honor in September. So he fell to 6th place.

In the third quarter, or not long before it, both manufacturers introduced novelties in the middle class. It probably had a very good impact on Honor’s results, in July the company even sold 12,420 mobile phones, twice as much as Infinix. During August and September, however, Honor fell significantly, to less than 6 thousand units sold (a drop of 53.7% in three months). On the other hand, Honor has a year-on-year increase in total sales of 93% and Infinix even 94.3%.

Surprise on behalf of Google

Other manufacturers also recorded a similar drop, although not as striking. So far this year, for example, Vivo (year-on-year drop of 19.7%), Realme (down of even 52.3%) or Doogee (year-on-year drop of 45.9%) are not doing well. With its quarterly sales of 1,392 units, Japan’s Sony just barely made it into the top 20 manufacturer statistics.

Sony is doing something wrong, they only sell lower hundreds of phones per month…

On the contrary, a very interesting story with a (so far) happy ending is being written by the American Google. In May, he announced his official entry into the Czech market and launched his own Google Store here. And even though the prices of the Pixel phones on offer have gone up, Google has sold almost twice as many of them compared to last year.

Specifically, for the whole of this year, we are talking about 11,581 phones, while last year at this time only, the American company boasted “only” 6,547 phones sold. Overall, this is an increase of 76.8%. Google currently holds a 1.1% share of the Czech market.

Welcome to the Mobile Tumbleweed Showdown in the Czech Republic!

Hold onto your smartphones, folks, because we’re diving deep into the wild world of mobile sales in the Czech Republic! It looks like the latest figures from the GfK agency are giving us the scoop on who’s hot (Samsung), who’s not (poor, poor Sony), and who’s making a surprise comeback (hello, Google!).

Samsung still reigning, but for how long?

Now, let’s talk about our reigning champion, Samsung. Yes, the South Korean giant is still holding the title for the third quarter of 2024. But make no mistake; they’re losing ground faster than a toddler on a sugar high! With a market share dipping below 34% and a sales drop during the summer months, it’s enough to make their management team sweat more than a priest at a hen party.

  • Samsung: 33.1% market share, 860,117 phones sold this year!
  • Xiaomi’s Redmi: 23.9% market share, because let’s face it, who doesn’t love a good bargain?
  • Apple: 21.9%, boosted by the latest iPhone release—because we all need a shiny new toy!

In fact, Samsung seems to be juggling their A and S models like they’re on a circus act, while Xiaomi and Apple are creeping up with brand loyalty that would make a puppy jealous.

The Redmi Rise

Speaking of Xiaomi, their Redmi brand is like that friend who keeps bringing extra snacks to the party. It just keeps getting better! With a 24% market slice, they’re selling more units than you can shake a phone at. If this keeps up, we might have to start calling them the “Red-mi Ninja” for stealing that market share!

Apple’s Keeping it Classy

Now let’s move on to Apple! They’re consistently strong, holding third place and guaranteed to make some noise with their iPhone 16 drop. It seems like every time Apple releases a new phone, some people pray as if the second coming has arrived—“Ooh, shiny!” But with a market share of 21.9%, they’re grasping the premium market like a toddler who just discovered sugar.

The Thrilling Competition: Infinix vs. Honor

And who could forget about the contenders trying to peek into the top tier? Infinix and Honor are battling it out for the fifth spot as if their careers depend on it. Fortunately for Infinix, they sold just a few more phones than Honor, but half the fun comes from the drama surrounding their fluctuating sales.

Honor shot up in sales but then plummeted like my self-esteem after a bad haircut. In the dog-eat-dog world of mobile phones, it’s survival of the fittest—or should I say, the most consumer-friendly?

Google’s Surprise Comeback

Now, let’s dish out a dose of unexpected drama: the return of Google! Once the nerdy kid in the back of the class, they’ve come to play. Since swaggering into the Czech market with their Pixel series, they’ve managed to nearly double their sales. I mean, talk about an “awareness campaign” – they might well be getting their own reality show! Google holds a modest 1.1% market share, but baby steps, right? If they were a movie, they’d be the underdog flick that gets an unexpected happy ending.

Final Thoughts

In summary, dear readers, the Czech mobile market is quite the soap opera these days—filled with ups, downs, and some serious plot twists. It’s no holds barred here, with Samsung wondering how long they can cling to their throne while Xiaomi and Apple might just take the lead by the next quarter. Can Infinix and Honor turn this rivalry into an epic saga?! Will Google continue to rise from the ashes of mediocrity? Stay tuned for what these brands will pull next! And remember to follow your favorite brands like they’re your new obsession—because let’s face it, this competition is more exciting than my last date!

Interview with Jakub Fischer, Mobile Technology Journalist

Editor: Welcome, Jakub! It’s great to have you here to discuss the dynamic shifts in the mobile phone ‌market in the Czech Republic. Let’s dive right in! Samsung has reported a drop in sales despite still being the top seller. What ‌do you think is causing this decline?

Jakub Fischer: ⁤ Thank you! It’s a pleasure to be here. Samsung’s decline can be‍ attributed to several factors. While they still hold‌ a significant market share⁢ at 33.1%, they’ve faced‍ increased competition from brands like Xiaomi and Apple, who are gaining traction with their high-quality yet affordable offerings. The slump in‍ their summer sales suggests that customers may be opting for‌ alternatives that provide better value for money, particularly the Redmi series from Xiaomi.

Editor: Speaking of Xiaomi, it‍ appears to be benefiting significantly ⁣from Samsung’s decline. Can you elaborate on the success of the Redmi⁣ brand?

Jakub Fischer: Absolutely! Redmi has carved out a strong niche by offering impressive technology at a lower price point, appealing to budget-conscious consumers. With a market share of 23.9%, they’re not just surviving; they’re thriving! The brand’s ability to balance performance and affordability has captured a substantial segment of the market, especially ⁢among⁤ younger buyers who value features over brand names.

Editor: On the flip side, ⁤Apple seems to be maintaining a steady position, driven by the launch of the iPhone 16. What does this⁣ mean for their future‌ sales in the Czech market?

Jakub Fischer: Apple’s classic ‌strategy revolves around creating hype around new releases. With the iPhone 16 launch, their sales are significantly bolstered, achieving a⁣ 21.9% market share. They tend to do very ⁤well during the autumn ⁤and holiday seasons, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they manage to ⁣surpass Xiaomi in the upcoming months, especially with loyal fans lining up to upgrade.

Editor: Let’s talk about the surprising rise of Google and‌ its ‍Pixel lineup. What does their growing presence in the market signify?

Jakub Fischer: Google’s entry into the Czech market has ‍been met with enthusiasm. Despite being a relatively new player, their Pixel⁣ phones have seen remarkable growth, with a ⁤76.8% increase in sales compared⁢ to last year. This reflects a growing appetite for pure Android experiences and unique features like impressive camera capabilities. The fact that they’ve nearly ⁢doubled ‍their sales indicates that consumers ⁢are ready to embrace alternatives to traditional giants.

Editor: Lastly, there’s an exciting competition brewing between Infinix and Honor. Where do they stand ⁣in the rankings, and what can we expect from⁣ them moving forward?

Jakub Fischer: ⁢Infinix currently holds the fifth position, slightly edging out Honor by a narrow margin in September sales. However, both brands have shown remarkable year-on-year growth—around 93% for Honor and 94.3% for Infinix—which signifies strong brand awareness and customer loyalty. ⁢The recent ⁣launches in the mid-range segment by both manufacturers have‍ likely contributed to their competitive performance. It will be interesting ‌to see if they can ⁤maintain this momentum in the coming months or if one will outpace the⁤ other.

Editor: Thank you, Jakub! Your insights on the evolving landscape of mobile ⁤sales‌ in the Czech‌ Republic have shed light on some fascinating trends. We look forward to seeing how these‍ market dynamics unfold!

Jakub Fischer: Thank you for having ⁢me! It’s certainly an exciting time in ⁤mobile technology, ‍and I’m eager to see how it all develops.

G acceptance of their devices, emphasizing quality and unique features like exceptional camera capabilities. As they expand their presence, they could potentially disrupt the status quo and challenge the established competitors, making the market even more competitive.

Editor: That’s certainly an interesting outlook! Besides Samsung, Xiaomi, Apple, and Google, we can’t overlook the competition between Infinix and Honor. What do you think is driving their varying performance levels in the market?

Jakub Fischer: The rivalry between Infinix and Honor has been intriguing. Both companies have introduced new mid-range models, but their success varies. Infinix has maintained its position by consistently selling reliable devices that cater to budget-conscious consumers, while Honor initially saw a spike but has dropped significantly in sales over the last quarter, possibly due to market saturation or consumer preference shifts. It will be interesting to see if Honor can recover in the coming months or if Infinix will solidify its advantage.

Editor: Lastly, do you have any predictions on how this mobile market landscape might change in the coming quarters? Any brands we should keep an eye on?

Jakub Fischer: Definitely watch for continued shifts in market dynamics. While Samsung remains a strong player, the pressure from Xiaomi and Apple is mounting. Google’s ongoing efforts could turn heads, challenging the traditional players. Additionally, mid-range smartphone segments will likely see fierce competition as brands like Infinix and Honor strive to carve out their niches. The holiday season will certainly be a defining time for sales, where consumer preferences could dramatically reshape the leaderboard.

Editor: Thank you, Jakub, for sharing your insights into the Czech mobile market. It seems to be a vibrant landscape with plenty of drama ahead!

Jakub Fischer: Thank you for having me! It’s an exciting time to follow the developments in mobile technology, and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds!
