“It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce that at the age of 82, the legendary striker, former coach and Lithuanian patriot Mr. Josef Beránek Sr. has left us forever. The club expresses its sincere condolences to the bereaved,” said Litvínov.

With the exception of military service in Litoměřice, Beránek spent his entire playing career with Litvínov, in which he played in 422 games over 14 seasons and collected 198 Canadian points for 113 goals and 85 assists.

After the end of his playing career, Beránek threw himself into coaching. As a coach, he led in the top league in addition to Litvínov and Karlovy Vary. He achieved his greatest success in the 1995/96 season, when he led Chemiky to extra-league silver and was named coach of the season.
