Cyril Dion, Charles Berling, Emily Loizeau, Dominique Méda, Thomas Piketty…. Thirty personalities call “for the emergence of a candidacy for a rally on the left”

Tribune. Hate speech seems to be gaining ground every day. They remind us of the darkest hours in French history and make us fear a near future strewn with divisions, violence and exclusion. It is still possible to block hatred, but it is urgent: in April it will be too late.

Equally urgent: each year, climate change kills thousands of people, announcing an unlivable future, made up of droughts, ever more frequent and violent floods, and more powerful hurricanes …

Yet we know the solutions to win the climate battle. But our only chance to get there requires a serious change of course. With five nominations each saying “My priority is the climate and social justice”, we are certain that these crucial priorities have no chance of winning in april.

Avoid a second Macron-Zemmour round

“Our political system is blocked. Every day, our institutions, inadequate and sclerotic, sink a little deeper into the crisis. For lack of satisfactory proposals, clear prospects and tangible results, many of our fellow citizens abstain from elections, when they do not give in to the senseless promises and hate speech of the National Rally and the far right. Too often we just vote “ once morest” to eliminate the “other” candidate. Worse, we do not vote, appalled by the mediocrity of the political offer and its inability to renew itself. “

“We are millions to find ridiculous and suicidal the five candidatures announced which all give themselves as priorities” the climate and the social justice “”

It is with these words that began the “Appeal for a primary on the left” signed six years ago by Yannick Jadot and several of us (Release, January 10, 2016). Six years later, the need for a big primary is even more obvious: 70% of the French do not want a Macron-Le Pen second round, according to an IFOP poll published in February 2021. And there are millions of us who want avoid at all costs a second Macron-Zemmour or Macron-Pécresse round.

There are also millions of us who want to break with forty years of increasing inequalities and discrimination. Millions to see that Emmanuel Macron has really not been up to the task in the fight once morest climate change and once morest inequalities. Millions find ridiculous and suicidal the five candidates announced which all give themselves as priorities “The climate and social justice”.
