Cynthia Bolingo: Record-breaking Performance at World Athletics Championships

Cynthia Bolingo ranked 5th in the women’s 400m final of the world athletics championships on Wednesday evening in Budapest. The Belgian set a time of 50.33 in this event won by the Dominican Marileidy Paulino at 48.76.

The Polish Natalia Kaczmarek2nd in 49.57, and the Barbadian Now Williams, 3rd in 49.60, take the silver and bronze medals. Cynthia Bolingo, who is playing her second World Championships at the age of 30, broke the Belgian record (49.96) on Monday in the semi-finals, which allowed her to be drafted on time for the final.

She is the first Belgian female athlete to take part in a final in a world championship race since Kim Gevaert. The current director of the Van Damme Memorial finished 5th in the 100m in Osaka in 2007 and 7th in Helsinki in 2005 in the 200m.
