Salalah: The threat of Cyclone Tej is over in Oman. The Oman Meteorological Center said the wind was moving towards the coast of Yemen. But the CAA notice says that wind and rain will continue and caution is required. The hurricane, which is currently a Category 1 storm, will soon weaken. It is likely to make landfall in Yemen’s Al Mahra Governorate tonight or tomorrow morning. At present the wind speed is 120 kmph. The warning states that wind and rain will continue in Dhofar Governorate and Al Wusta and therefore caution is required.

Minor effects of the cyclone started in Salalah late yesterday. The atmosphere was overcast everywhere. But neither heavy rain nor strong wind has been experienced in the town or its vicinity. Heavy rain has fallen in some provinces. Most of the governorates of Oman have received rain as part of Tej. So far there are no reports of major damage from anywhere. Civil Defense has also made strong preparations. The residents of Salalah are relieved that Cyclone Tej, which has worried locals and expatriates alike, will pass without causing major damage.
