Vienna (OTS) – Cyclone Mocha is heading towards Cox’s Bazar, southernmost part of Bangladesh. The aid organization CARE is extremely concerned regarding the people in this region, especially the Rohingya refugees. CARE is preparing emergency aid measures under high pressure.
Ramesh Singh, Country Director of CARE Bangladesh: “The refugees live in temporary accommodation. The seasonal monsoon rains are already a major burden for the people in the refugee camp. A severe cyclone can lead to devastating devastation and cause another humanitarian crisis. CARE Bangladesh is at its peak Alert. Response teams and volunteers are being mobilized for evacuations and emergency response.”
In addition to the aid programs in the Rohingya refugee camps, CARE also runs various projects in the Cox’s Bazar region. Cyclone preparedness is being coordinated with local government agencies, partners and volunteers.
