Last Tuesday, Philippe Van Lagendonck was cycling through the Bois de la Cambre, in Brussels, with his son to return home. While riding in the part of the park where cars are prohibited, he came across a group of cyclists on road bikes, who had to avoid a few pedestrians in the middle of the road. The majority of cyclists were able to avoid pedestrians on the right, but one passed on the left. Due to the high speed of the cyclist, the collision was inevitable.

“It was instant! I didn’t have time to avoid it. We had a shock against each other. I found myself paralyzed on the ground. I couldn’t move anymore. They told me not to get up.” Both cyclists were taken to hospital. The cyclist was admitted to intensive care. Philippe, luckier, escaped with some bruises to his arm, leg and chest. The father is still struggling to understand how this incident could have happened. “I ride on the right side. How can we expect a cyclist traveling in the opposite direction to come head-on? »
