The fourth stage of the Giro was offered to the breakaway and it was Aurélien Paret-Peintre who won. The French beat Leknessund in a two-man sprint but the Norwegian will be able to console himself with the pink jersey that he recovers from Remco Evenepoel. In the group of favorites, no difference is to be reported.
After another sprint on the third stage, the riders tackle the first slopes on Tuesday. And the fight rages to take the breakaway.
The good shot has not yet started at the top of the Passo delle Crocelle where Thibaut Pinot take the points. It is finally in the descent, following more than 70km that 7 men break away. We find in particular the Norwegian Leknessund, at 1: 40 fromEvenepoel in general, as well as Barguil.
The collaboration is good in the leading group and the team members of Evenepoel are in control in the peloton. The gap initially stabilized around 4 minutes but rose to 5 minutes 30 at 30km from the finish.
It is still more than 4 minutes when approaching the ascent of Colle Molella. In the leading group, Nicholas Conci is the first to accelerate and takes a few meters lead but is picked up and dropped by Tom Skujin. Good luck since the Latvian is caught and they are only three in the lead: Paret-Painter, Ghebreigzabhier and Leknessund. The Norwegian is the strongest and blows everyone up but the Frenchman comes back on the flat.
Aurélien Paret-Peintre then proved to be the fastest in the sprint and won the fourth stage. Andreas Leknessund recovers Remco Evenepoel’s tunic which arrives with the rest of the favorites at more than 2 minutes.
