Cycling: Peter Sagan to compete in his last pro race on Sunday

Slovakian Peter Sagan will compete in the last race of his professional career on Sunday at the Slovakian Mountainbike Championships. His team, Pierre Baguette, announced this on Sunday morning.

Sagan had started a farewell tour in 2023. Last year, he ended his WorldTour road career. Last June, he competed in his last professional road race at the Tour of Slovakia. He will now definitively end his professional career with the Slovakian mountainbike championships. “This will be his last UCI professional race in any discipline,” Pierre Baguette said on X. “After his health problems this year, he has decided to end his career in mountainbike as well.

Sagan is notably a three-time world road champion, seven-time winner of the green jersey in the Tour de France and has won, among others, the Tour of Flanders 2016 and Paris-Roubaix 2018. For his last season, the Slovakian wanted to qualify for the Olympic Games in mountain biking, but did not succeed. His attempt to qualify was disrupted by two heart operations after suffering from cardiac arrhythmia.
