The accident happened around eleven o’clock on the B153 in Steinbach am Attersee (Vöcklabruck district). Both racing cyclists were heading towards Weißenbach during the sporting event.
The 36-year-old participant from the Vöcklabruck district braked his bike. Behind him drove an initially unknown participant. The two racing bikes collided, and both the man and the woman fell. But while the 36-year-old was left on the road with serious injuries, the woman got back on her bike and continued on without helping the injured man.
Rescue helicopter in action
Rescue workers provided first aid, then he was flown by helicopter to the Vöcklabruck hospital. As the State Police Directorate announced on Monday evening, the fugitive driver might be investigated. It is a 51-year-old from Salzburg. “After the accident, following repairing a defect on her bike, the woman got back on the bike and continued the race with her companion without taking care of the man who was seriously injured on the ground,” the police said. The 51-year-old now has to reckon with a display.
