Cyberpunk 2077 will soon be entitled to its first DLC: Phantom Liberty. Gamers are eager, but others are already deep in theories to finally solve CD Projekt’s biggest mystery.
While the Phantom Liberty DLC is eagerly awaited, some Cyberpunk 2077 players already have their minds busy! Since 2020, a mystery continues to feed the page Reddit “FF:06:B5”. This name comes from a code found on several statues of the CD Projekt title. Six stand proudly in the streets of Night City, and two in our protagonist’s apartments (since update 1.5). It did not take less to panic the community, which got it into their heads that the inscription hid a secret. Very quickly, Pawel Sasko, director of quests, confirmed this theory. “Of course there is a meaning, we are CD Projekt, what do you think? “, he said on his channel Twitch in June 2021.
An unknown idol
First step: understand the appearance of the famous statues. They represent a being with four legs and four arms, carrying a gigantic sword and a sphere, the palm of a hand facing outward. A creature that does not exist in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, but which may resonate with some cultures – at least according to the fans. One of the tracks suggests that the building was inspired by a Tengu (raven demon of Japanese culture, present opposite). The players have also looked into the Shinto and especially the Buddhist religion, insofar as one of the eight statues stands out: the one located in Corpo Plaza. It is identical to the others, but monks pray at its foot, reciting their mantra: “My apprentice! Your throat chakra is blocked! Activate the meridians on the roof of your mouth”.
For some, these believers would have a direct link with the “Zen Master”, an enigmatic NPC who takes us to meditate in the four corners of Night City. In the game, his intentions remain obscure, but according to his words, he would serve as a guide. “I prepare you so that you can, when the time comes, make the right choice,” he says. The man might refer to the actions of the player during the adventure, which influence the end of the title. Moreover, this would join a second theory which presumes that the patterns on the belt of the idols represent “the scriptural branches”. Alright, so maybe this statue thing is just a secret message that needs to be decoded, but then what does “FF:06:B5” mean?
The Shocking Pink
In computing, “FF:06:B5” is a code for “shocking pink,” a color that the community has simplified to magenta (which is why the survey is dubbed “The Magenta Mystery”). “). A recurring nuance in the artistic direction of Cyberpunk 2077, but which also lends its name to a chakra of the Hindu and Buddhist religion. According to fans, this is a reference to the character of Mitsy, who repeatedly agrees to read our future thanks to her tarot cards.. In her shop, a sign mentions chakras that she might soothe (“your throat chakra is blocked” said the monks). The announcement is accompanied by several sequences of numbers and letters, which players are still trying to decipher.
For some, there would be no need to go that far. “FF:06:B5” would refer to the fifth track of the group’s sixth album Fear Factory, “Ascension” (CD Projekt had already done the trick with the OP55N1 mission which referred to “Nocturne Op. 55 No. 1” by Chopin). But “FF:06:B5” might also be a filename, counter, or location. There is even talk of a reference to Final Fantasy 6 or even to the Cyberpunk 2020 paper game, with its B5 sector. Over the years, the questions have piled up, until the Polish studio leaves a big clue in The Witcher 3.
The Witcher 3 and met du sien
After two years of research and theories, the mystery finds itself far from the neighborhoods of Night City to land in The Witcher 3: Next Gen, released on December 14, 2022 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series. Since the update, on a wall in the underground passages of a stronghold of Velen, players can see a pink triangle, surrounded by an ouroboros (a snake that bites its tail) and several letters from the fictitious alphabet of the software . Once once more, the intriguing magenta color finds itself at the center of the enigma. We can also see lines similar to those located on the belt of the statues. So there would be an obvious connection with Cyberpunk 2077’s “FF:06:B5”.
Regarding the general appearance of the symbol, it is already found in 2016, in the Blood and Wine DLC. It is that of the vampires that can be seen in particular on the gloves of the character Régis. Interesting, when you consider that several fan theories suggest that Saburo Arasaka, leader of the eponymous corporation in Cyberpunk 2077, is himself a vampire. When it comes to glyph sequences, that’s another story. Reddit user dunstan_shlae tried his hand at translating. The results did not bring many answers, because his letters do not – at first glance – mean anything. They can refer to file formats, to a code, to a diminutive. In short, we are left in the dark.

For now, the mystery remains, but the community is not discouraged. With the arrival of the Phantom Liberty DLC, new avenues will be explored. It is even possible that other statues will be added. According to what CD Projekt announced, this should be the only additional content of Cyberpunk 2077. In other words, when it is released, all the pieces of the puzzle should be united. After all, maybe “FF:06:B5” refers to the upcoming game from the Polish studio. “After the release of Phantom Liberty, my main focus will be on the new Cyberpunk 2077 project. Codenamed Orion”recalls Pawel Sasko, on Twitter in October 2022.
