According to the latest report from the National Center for Cyber Security (NCSC), the number of cyber incidents that occurred during the second half of 2022 in Switzerland and the rest of the world remained high. We stay in the line of 1is semester of the same year.
In the second half of 2022, the number of reports remained very high, amounting to 17,341 cases, almost the same level as the first half. In total, the NCSC received 34,527 announcements last year, according to this Press release.
Extortion emails
About 85% of these warnings come from the population, while the remaining 15% come from companies, associations or authorities. They concern the most diverse forms of fraud, according to the same text.
Almost a third of the reports relate to pseudo-extortion emails, or threatening emails allegedly sent by law enforcement authorities. The president scam and billing fraud are also often reported.
Ransomware and Hacks
Announcements of ransomware attacks have remained stable and account for almost half of malware reports. Out of 76 advertisements received, a third come from individuals and two thirds from companies, which are mainly affected by the attacks of the “Lockbit” malware, it is indicated in the same press release.
In the second half of the year, hacking announcements, which amounted to 276, almost doubled compared to the previous half. Social media accounts are a prime target for cybercriminals. They use hacked accounts, for example, to blackmail users or distribute for fictitious investment offers.
