In 2019, Algeria broke the record for the annual number of network cuts in Africa. On six occasions, the government blocked access to the Internet to hinder communication between demonstrators of the Hirak movement, which calls for political change, and whose magnitude led, on April 27 of the same year, to the departure of the president.
