Several of our readers have informed us that there is a problem with CIB Bank’s bank cards, i.e. the bank’s customers cannot pay or withdraw money with them.

  • there was someone who mightn’t pay a check,
  • for another, the cash withdrawal was not successful, but his account was debited with the amount he wanted to withdraw.

For technical reasons, interruptions are currently being experienced – the information on the CIB website states.

As written,

in the case of transactions made with debit and credit cards issued by the bank (any purchase and cash withdrawal, eCommerce), as well as the services of ATMs, POS and SOFTPOS terminals operated by CIB Bank.

The bank also adds that their telephone customer service is available with limited functionality, but that the problem is being rectified.

UPDATE: The Hungarian bank also recorded the unsuccessful transactions, but the problem was resolved by the evening

There was a huge shutdown at CIB Bank: customers might not access their money with their bank cards. The problem was solved by the evening, and the unsuccessful transactions – which were nevertheless deducted from the accounts in the evening – are also deleted. You can read more regarding it here.

A shutdown was planned for today, but later

By the way, the bank had a planned shutdown today – when several of its services become unavailable – but the CIB planned it from 10 p.m., not during the day. As regarding the Couch also reported

according to the information on the financial institution’s website, several CIB Bank services will not be available from 10:00 tonight until 5:00 a.m. Friday.

The planned shutdown affects CIB Bank Online, CIB Bank Mobile App, eBroker, Business Terminal and CIB Business Online.

The CIB reacted to the shutdown

Ádám Szinai, CIB Bank’s head of communications, told Economx that the shutdown in the followingnoon and the shutdown planned for the evening have nothing to do with each other. They are currently working on eliminating the error, one or two functions have already been restored. For example, our editorial staff was able to initiate a successful transaction on a Revolut account.

The CIB specifically emphasized that

customers have access to their money in their bank accounts,

although it is also true that this cannot be solved with a bank card at the moment – while the error is being rectified.

“Everyone has access to their money, bank accounts are available, bank cards are affected by the technical problem,” Ádám Szinai told us.

When asked what the situation was with the bank’s application – our readers experienced interruptions there as well – the head of communications said that the load on the system had increased, which is why there are interruptions when using the application.

CIB Bank is the seventh largest bank in Hungary based on total assets.

CIB Bank, which had a great 2023, expects a stronger forint
