“It was much more interesting than giving back everything I earned to taxes.”
After studying translation and interpretation, Eva Castiaux embarked on a master’s degree in political science in Brussels in 2018, and then began looking for work in parallel. She began selling in the on-demand jewelry store Acredo. “I worked on weekends at the jewelry store, and following being hired for my first job at ESN, I continued to come on Saturdays,” says Eva Castiaux. At the beginning, I did sales and advice in store, then I took charge of digital communication on Sundays as well. I worked 7 days a week!”

Involved in her parallel profession, Eva Castiaux officially moved from temporary worker status to complementary freelance at the start of 2021: “It was much more interesting than giving back everything I earned to taxes”.

Then last September, everything accelerated. The managers of Acredo decided to hand over the reins and the Monsois couple responded. “I had already been thinking regarding it since the end of my master’s degree,” explains Eva Castiaux. We are very close with Emmanuele and the idea of seeing each other only in the evening following work does not suit us. We had already thought regarding doing business together in the Horeca sector, and ultimately it was jewelry that presented itself. The Acredo jewelry store is by appointment only, which allows for flexible hours. We mainly sell rings, especially engagement rings, customers are always happy which is nice. Plus, we can have our dachshund with us.”

For the moment, Emmanuele Sblendorio has kept her job and Eva Castiaux works Mondays and Tuesdays at ESN and the rest of the week for the jewelry store. All jewelry is produced on request in Germany, in the workshops of EGF, the factory which created the Acredo brand around fifteen years ago. Since 1919, EGF has been manufacturing jewelry in Pforzheim, “the Silicon Valley of fine jewelry,” for the biggest houses on Place Vendôme in Paris. The couple of entrepreneurs from Mons now sell these creations under the Acredo own brand, certified by the Responsible Jewelery Council (recycled precious alloys, traceability of the supply chain, social commitment and 100% climate-neutral production).
”We want to expand to necklaces and bracelets eventually, but for now our main business is really rings. We sell between 15 and 25 per month, at prices which can range from 250 to 20,000 euros depending on the precious stones chosen, explains Eva Castiaux. We work a lot. We have to hurt ourselves now to be able to enjoy life sooner when jewelry is our full-time activity.”
A goal that the couple hopes to achieve in the spring of 2025. The first accounting report scheduled for the end of 2024 will be decisive…
