In a space of scenery that reminded us of the old houses of our grandparents, bringing out from their shadows the wealth of culture that they handed down to us, 25 dance performances were held during the four days that passed. Here in Souli Patrons, the caravans of culture from all over Greece found a way – musical sounds from bagpipes, trumpets and bells, lyres and violins, clarinet and tambourines – to become one and take us on a tour of their villages and the real life of the villagers, showing us exactly what song, dance and customs mean to them.
The 26th Folk Dance Festival ended with great success with the theme: “Listen to Me How I Sing…With Drums and Dance!” a topic dedicated to the “Crazy or Sane” who fight for Civilization, for the values they want to take from us, protecting the dreams and the future of our children because to learn what you love, you have to search, find the beautiful, the real tambourine and when you find it…don’t forget me…”The Somebody”!
A drum full of love, true and beautiful. As beautiful as a real hug. But Fate reminds us that we have forgotten the true steps of life that lead you to Love for our neighbor…but, have we not learned to distinguish how the drum weighs?
A journey, a story that becomes a performance, through the values of life, of everyday life, of fate itself, from which no one can escape…But, are we ready to live it or change it? Let us hear the true beats of the Tambourine, then perhaps this will lead us to the beautiful, to the true life… So Hear Me Sing…
In the specially designed small theater in Souli, Patrons, over two thousand spectators watched the dance groups that took part every day, and especially local dancers in authentic costumes from villages that keep their traditions unchanged. The special tributes that were initially made with the Kyrades from Selleio and Longo Deropolis stood out, who themselves are a story and a tradition and they traveled us with their polyphonic songs to our beautiful Epirus through a tribute: “THE KYRADES OF SELLEIOU ANO DROPOLIS “. The next tribute was the journey from the spontaneity of the dancer through the experience and the special TRIBUTE: “CHARALAMPOS SIDERAKIS – Expression With Body & Soul”. , SOURMENA 1924 -2024″.
Remarkable was the presence of the special voice of Thrace Litsa Ulianoudis, from the Evros Limestones who captivated us through her simplicity, which shows that she is a person who represents our culture, as well as the presence of other Local Groups, Villages, Cultural Associations that framed the 26th Festival:
Folklore Association “Dancing Moraites”, Cultural Association of Vineyards of Patras “I PROODOS”, Cultural Association of Pontia Apideona N. Achaia, Cultural Association “DROPOLI” North Epirus, Polyphonic Scheme “The Ladies of Selle” Ano Deropolis North Epirus, Cultural Center Armano Vlachon N. Kozanis “I FANTINA”, Cultural Association of Pefkot “p. IOANNIS PAPANTONIS” of Almopia, “Jenitsaroi & Boules” Club of Naoussa, Imathia, Traditional Society of Western Crete, Cultural Association of Volaka, of Drama, Educational Association of N. Domokou, ΄΄ΑΝΑΤΟΛΙΚΙΛΙΚΕ΄΄΄΄΄΄, Cultural Association of Souli Patras “PROGRESS”
– and made the world live a fairy tale. But quickly everyone understood that it was a true story defining our tradition.
The Organizers of the Festival, the Cultural Association with the Souli Dance Department of Patras proved that they have entered the root of culture for good by raising up villages with an identity of the culture of Greece and reminding us that our tradition does not “fit” trade and neither do groups demonstration for display purposes only.
The Folk Dance Festival has now evolved into a special annual meeting of dancers from all over Greece promoting and preserving Greek Folk Culture. After all, its success was seen on everyone’s faces and also by the daily presence of the people who supported the institution but in essence our tradition which we rarely get the opportunity to see nowadays with such authenticity. Everyone rewarded for this essential effort the organizers who also received the best words from the dance groups for the hospitality they received – seeing them work for this purpose from the 5-year-old child to the parents who cooked daily for 200 people – and the opportunity to participate in an institution that, as they used to say: “Souli is the House of our Culture, of our Tradition.”
