Fresher, cheekier and from now on every Friday: political talk “Aktuell: Die Woche” on JOYN, PULS 24 & ATV

Vienna (OTS) – The pointed political talk “Aktuell: Die Woche” with moderator Meinrad Knapp, political consultant Thomas Hofer and pollster Peter Hajek runs every Friday at 6:00 p.m. on PULS 24, at 10:20 p.m. on ATV and on Österreichs SuperStreamer JOYN review the political week. Among other things, the results of Peter Hajek’s current opinion survey will be discussed. After the increasingly loud rumors that the National Council elections might be brought forward to spring, he surveyed 500 Austrians: “What would you think regarding merging the National Council elections with the European Parliament elections at the beginning of June 2024?”

A narrow majority, namely 42 percent of those surveyed, consider combining the two elections to be a good idea, 40 percent are in favor of the scheduled election date in September 2024. When it comes to voter groups, 60 percent of FPÖ voters are in favor of early elections coupled with the EU parliamentary election, followed by SPÖ voters with 50 percent – only 40 percent of ÖVP voters think this is a good idea, the majority of 51 percent are in favor of keeping the original date.

In keeping with the question of the week, the daily newspaper “heute” also wanted to know from 500 respondents: “Should the government continue to work or should there be new elections?” In this survey conducted by Unique Research, 56 percent were in favor of the government continuing to work until the planned election date Autumn, while 36 percent are in favor of new elections being held as soon as possible, 8 percent did not give any information. The majority of voters in the Chancellor’s Party spoke out once morest ending government work – namely 83 percent of ÖVP voters. 60 percent of SPÖ voters are also once morest early elections. Only FPÖ voters, 74 percent, were in favor of an election date as soon as possible.

Peter Hajek: Basically, a clear majority (56%) is in favor of working until the end of the legislative period. However, if you make this group an offer to hold the National Council and the European Parliament together on June 9th, around a third of this group thinks it is a good idea. It’s all a question of perspective.
