TIPAZA – The projects of the five seawater desalination stations (SDEM) currently being implemented, as part of a strategic plan initiated by the public authorities, will be delivered within the set deadlines, the minister said on Saturday in Tipaza of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab.
He was speaking during an inspection visit to the project to build the “Fouka2” desalination station in the wilaya of Tipaza, the first stone of which was laid on July 5 by the President of the Republic Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
The SDEM “Fouka2” is part of a strategic plan aimed at the generalization of the construction of seawater desalination stations along the Algerian coast with those of Cap Djinet (Boumerdès), Cap Blanc (Oran), Koudiet Draouche (EI Tarf) and Tighremt (Béjaïa).
The objective of the State through the creation of these new SDEMs, with a capacity of 300,000 M3/day each, is to be able to satisfy the drinking water needs of the inhabitants of the coastal wilayas and achieve the security objective. water.
To this end, Mr. Arkab stressed that the construction of these stations is taking place at “the desired pace”, affirming that these projects “will be delivered within the set deadlines”.
“For all desalination station projects, we have finished with the constraints which were mainly technical,” he assured.
Concerning the “Fouka2” station, whose progress level is 46.71%, according to those responsible for the project, the minister indicated that “the end of the construction work is planned by the end of 2024”.
This station, built with 100% Algerian skills through the Algerian Energy Company (AEC), a subsidiary of Sonatrach, and the “Cosider” group, should make it possible to supply drinking water to the wilayas of Tipaza, Algiers, Blida and of Medea, said the minister.
Mr. Arkab also instructed project managers to maintain efforts at the pace of implementation, while accelerating the acquisition of equipment.
It should be noted that Mr. Arkab was accompanied, during his visit, by the wali of Tipaza and the local authorities, the CEO of Sonatrach, the CEO of Cosider-Canalisation, as well as the general director of the AEC.
