Switzerland was defeated for its entry into the Olympic curling tournament. Skip Peter De Cruz’s CC Geneva lost 7-4 to Norway.
The bronze medalists of Pyeongchang 2018 will have time to remake themselves, since they have eight matches left to play in the Round Robin. But this defeat remains painful, because the Norwegians of skip Steffen Walstad seem to be on the distance of a similar level to the Swiss, and therefore a direct rival in the fight for the podium.
Optimism
However, the Swiss can be optimistic regarding the future. Valentin Tanner, Peter De Cruz, Sven Michel and Benoît Schwarz achieved a percentage of 84% of successful stones. Such a rate is normally enough to win a match.
Against the Norwegians, they paid for the fact that they failed to take advantage of opportunities to score points several times. So they managed only one shot from two, to get back to 4-4 in the 8th end. But in the followingmath, their opponents did the same and thus almost ensured their victory.
