The seventeenth National Open Water Championship “Ciudad Cumaná” already has a date and will take place from September 19 to 21.
This year, the capital of the state of Sucre will welcome more than 800 swimmers from different states of Venezuela who will test their talent in this discipline.
The San Luis de Cumaná coastline will be the venue for the competition, in which athletes will cover distances of 2, 3, 5 and 10 kilometers.
Antonio Saint, president of the Más Allá de un Reto Foundation, organizer of the event, explained that 91 teams have registered, representing the states of Mérida, Zulia, Táchira and Lara, who are already in the eastern region, but are awaiting the arrival of other delegations.
He stressed that this championship is part of the 2024 Open Water League, which began its journey with a first stop in Mochima, last July; followed by this stage in Cumaná, and then going to a final phase scheduled for December in Arapo.
On the other hand, Ali Mudarra, president of the Municipal Institute of Sport, pointed out that this type of events are of great importance for the economy of Cumaná, as well as motivating for the sports area.
“We expect more than 2,000 tourists during this competition, which is positive for continuing to build the city.”
