On the occasion of the UN General Assembly, the music councils from Germany, Austria and Switzerland call for cultural policy action in their “Regensburg Declaration”.

Vienna (OTS) – 150 states highlighted the importance of culture as a public good in the Mexico City Declaration 2022. The three national music councils of Germany, Austria and Switzerland – ROOF – declare at their regular annual meeting on September 18th and 19th, 2023 in Regensburg:

The MONDIACULT declaration of 2022 shows the unity of 150 states to preserve and strengthen culture as the basis of human coexistence.

In conjunction with the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions of 2005, which is binding under international law, this creates the Responsibility of parliaments, governments and civil society to implement the agreed principles and goals.

We therefore call on the parliaments and governments of all federal levels in Germany, Austria and Switzerland to explain what measures they want to implement this exemplary international agreement on site.

Cultural participation, artistic freedom, media diversity, artist mobility and the social framework for creative professionals This includes the anchoring of cultural sustainability as the 18th goal in the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Social cohesion arises through local encounters.

Cultural policy is social policy, which, as a cross-sectional task, makes almost all parliamentary committees and government departments responsible in the context of European and international agreements. In view of the worldwide increase in authoritarian social systems, and corresponding developments in Europe too, Culture can make a substantial contribution to promoting social cohesion.

That’s why it’s time for action – at all federal levels!
