Culture Days: what to do in Beauharnois-Salaberry

The Journées de la culture will take place from September 30 to October 2. Across Quebec, several municipalities will offer a multitude of activities showcasing the heritage or talent of local artists. For this purpose, Beauharnois-Salaberry Getaway recalls the activities offered in the region.

Beauharnois: screening of the film Les Rapides du Diable and the Fall Festival

On Friday, September 30, at 7 p.m., there will be a screening of the film Les Rapides du Diable at the Manoir de la Maison des enfants Marie-Rose, located at 640, rue Ellice. This work by André Desrochers, halfway between documentary and fiction, recounts some of the legends that are perpetuated orally in the Lachine Rapids sector. These highlight the ecological wealth of the region. Note that the film was produced thanks to the collaboration of the Cultural Fund of the MRC Beauharnois-Salaberry and that it received the mention Best of show at the Nature without borders international film festival.

On Saturday, October 1, starting at 10 a.m., citizens will be invited to gather at Sauvé Park to participate in the creation of three scarecrows. The design, made from plants and recyclable materials, will be supervised by artists from the region. Everything will be accompanied by music, food and a pumpkin decorating contest.

Saint-Urbain-Premier: watercolor and public reading at the library

The Armand-Miller library, located at 9, rue de l’École, will host two activities on Sunday, October 2. At 9 a.m., a watercolor workshop will be given by artist Louise Laforme. Participants will have the opportunity to learn regarding this technique or to perfect their knowledge by creating a small format work. At 1:30 p.m., author Jean-François Sénéchal and the actors of À voix haute will offer a public reading of excerpts from the novel Le boulevard. Listeners will also have the chance to interact with the author and the actors.

Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague: soap making and entertainment at the church

On Saturday, October 1, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., a soap-making workshop will take place in the Éveline-Meloche room of the municipal center. Children from 6 to 12 years old will be invited to create real soaps, with the shapes, colors and scents of their choice.

Also on October 1, citizens can visit the Les expressions québécoises exhibition starting at 9 a.m. and attend the Son & brioches show, with Nadine Goffoy and Daniel Paulin, at 10 a.m. The event will conclude with an outdoor demonstration of the various flights of church bells.
