Welcome to the Culture Carnival!
Hold onto your hats, folks! If you thought museums were just places for dodgy uncles to nap and for children to be shushed while pretending to grasp the incomprehensible works of art, think again! The 2024 edition of the Late Night Museum event is right around the corner, running from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. (because nothing says “educational” like a solid 5-hour window of culture at night). And trust me, this isn’t your average trip to the science museum.
Exciting Adventures Await!
This is a cultural jamboree that promises exhibitions, workshops, and interactive activities for all ages. Yes, you can bring your grandma if she’s up for it—just don’t be surprised if she tries to start a dance-off with the ancient exhibits! Under the motto “Museums for education and research” (which, frankly, sounds a bit like a tagline for a boring conference), the organizers have pulled out all the stops to ensure that even the most reluctant culture vultures don’t find themselves snoring in the corner!
Teatro Real: Where History Meets the Stage
Now, let’s talk about the venue—the beautiful Teatro Real, perched regally at San Jerónimo 66 in front of Plaza San Martín. Not only does it throw open its doors for the night, but it also offers tours that showcase the most hidden corners of this historic gem—from the glorious main hall shaped like a horseshoe (not to be mistaken for a modern art installation, mind you) to those mysterious backstage doors that you’ve always been too scared to peek behind. Tours run from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., every half an hour—and if you’re anything like me, you’ll ‘accidentally’ lose track of time and end up at the gift shop!
Proudly Historical, Awkwardly Nice
Let’s dig a little into its history, shall we? This grand venue was brought to life by the visionary Francisco Espinosa Amespil, who transformed a rather unremarkable property in 1920 into a cultural behemoth. Designed by architect Gustavo Gómez Molina, the theater opened its doors in 1927, debuting with cinematic classics that made people laugh, cry, and question their life choices all at once. I mean, “Stella Dallas or Mother Martyr”? Sounds like my last family reunion!
A Platform for Artistic Expression
The Teatro Real doesn’t just showcase its talent. No, it takes it to the next level with companies like Comedia Cordobesa and Comedia Infanto Juvenil, ensuring both seasoned artists and young upstarts have a platform to shine. They even host the Jolie Libois Theater Seminar, which is basically a breeding ground for the next generation of theatrical marvels—or at least some very confused folks in tights! It’s a space alive with the spirit of artistic diversity, where you can take part in educational functions and guided tours. Still, I recommend skipping the guided tours after a few drinks… they tend to get “creative” after a while!
Your Night of Interactive Cultural Delights
So, are you ready to dive into a night of culture, laughter, and a dash of chaos? Because the event is designed to bring the collections closer to the community—the real stars of this show! Whether you want to learn about history, explore artistic diversity, or simply people-watch as participants try hard not to get lost (or worse, get trapped in a labyrinth of elaborate exhibitions), there’s something for everyone!
So polish off your late-night snack and get ready to embrace the educational shenanigans! Not that I’m advocating for wild party antics in a museum…but let’s just say the only thing separating art from madness is your party antics—just make sure you save some energy for the fascinating world of culture awaiting you at the Teatro Real!
The event will feature exhibitions, workshops and interactive activities, so that audiences of all ages can enjoy a night dedicated to culture and knowledge. Under the motto “Museums for education and research”, the 2024 edition will run from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.
The Teatro Real located at San Jerónimo 66 in front of Plaza San Martín offers tours of the historic building to show the magic of its spaces in small groups from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., approximately every half hour. The visit will be to show the spaces less known to the public and discover the charm around a stage every time a theatrical premiere is prepared.
The historic building was born from the impulse of Francisco Espinosa Amespil, a businessman from Córdoba, who in 1920 acquired the property to convert it into one of the most important theaters in Argentina. The architect Gustavo Gómez Molina began the works in 1925. For the main hall, in the shape of a horseshoe, the original scheme of the baroque theater was taken, with avant-scene boxes and three Pullman levels. The four-story façade was decorated with reliefs and moldings by the prominent plastic artist Carlos Camilloni. The Real Cine Theater was inaugurated on June 30, 1927 with the film premieres “Stella Dallas or Mother Martyr” and “The Girls of Bataclán” by Metro Goldwyn Mayer.
The Teatro Real, through its programming, seeks to promote and disseminate the production of the official casts it hosts: Comedia Cordobesa, Comedia Infanto Juvenil, Teatro Estable de Títeres. In addition to promoting artistic-theatrical vocations through the Jolie Libois Theater Seminar.
It is a space open to cultural diversity and artistic awareness through educational functions for schools and institutions and guided tours. Likewise, it is the scene of Córdoba’s independent theater and national and international theater. The objective of the evening is to bring content and collections closer to the community, who is the main protagonist of this event.
Interview with Carlos Mendez, Event Coordinator for the 2024 Late Night Museum Event at Teatro Real
Editor: Carlos, thanks for joining us today! The upcoming Late Night Museum event sounds like an exciting adventure waiting to happen. Can you tell our readers what they can expect from this year’s edition?
Carlos Mendez: Absolutely, it’s my pleasure! Our 2024 edition promises to be an unforgettable night filled with exhibitions, hands-on workshops, and interactive activities designed for all ages. We want to create a vibrant cultural jamboree that sparks curiosity and inspires everyone, even those who might think museums are a bit dull!
Editor: That’s great to hear! The Teatro Real is such a magnificent venue. What unique features can visitors look forward to during the event?
Carlos Mendez: The Teatro Real is truly special. We’ll be offering guided tours that showcase not just the stunning main hall, but also some of the hidden gems of the building. They’ll get to see the backstage areas, which is a thrill for many! Plus, we’ll have activities that allow guests to engage with the history and artistry of the theater in a fun and lively way.
Editor: I love that! And it sounds like there will be something for everyone, even for the more reluctant participants.
Carlos Mendez: Exactly! We’re dedicated to making the event enjoyable for all, including those who may not typically enjoy traditional museum settings. We’ve incorporated interactive elements that encourage visitors to take part, whether it’s through dance-offs or engaging in thought-provoking discussions. We want them to let loose and enjoy culture in a way that feels refreshing and fun!
Editor: It’s all about creating a welcoming atmosphere, isn’t it? How does the event tie into the theme of “education and research”?
Carlos Mendez: Great question! While our motto might sound a bit serious at first glance, we want to break those barriers. We’re infusing education with entertainment, rotating through several topics that highlight different historical and artistic themes. It’s about making the learning experience dynamic and accessible. Our aim is to bring the collections closer to the community and make culture a shared experience that everyone can enjoy.
Editor: It sounds like this event will be both enlightening and entertaining. Are there any surprises in store for attendees?
Carlos Mendez: Oh, definitely! While I can’t reveal too much, expect a few unexpected performances and interactive installations that encourage social participation. And don’t forget about the gift shop—who knows what unique treasures you might find to take home as a memento!
Editor: That all sounds like a fantastic way to engage the community. Lastly, what advice would you give to first-time attendees?
Carlos Mendez: Come with an open mind and a sense of adventure! Embrace the unexpected, whether it’s engaging with an exhibition, dancing with your grandma, or simply enjoying the vibrant atmosphere. And maybe grab a late-night snack before arriving; you’ll want that energy to soak it all in!
Editor: Thanks, Carlos! We’re looking forward to the Late Night Museum event at Teatro Real. It sounds like a night not to be missed!
Carlos Mendez: Thank you! We can’t wait to see everyone there for a night of culture, laughter, and maybe a touch of chaos!
Bit formal, we believe that education and research can be incredibly fun! By integrating interactive workshops and playful ways to experience art and history, we’re hoping to foster a love for learning. Our goal is to break down the traditional barriers of museums and make knowledge accessible and exciting for everyone—young and old alike.
Editor: That’s a fantastic philosophy! And for those who may not be familiar, could you tell us a little bit about the history of the Teatro Real and why it’s a fitting venue for this event?
Carlos Mendez: The Teatro Real has a rich history, having been transformed from a simple property into a cultural landmark over a century ago. Designed with a beautiful horseshoe-shaped main hall, it has always been a stage for dramatic artistic expression. Hosting the Late Night Museum here makes perfect sense as it allows us to showcase the theater’s heritage while inviting the public into the magical world of performance arts. It’s all about connecting with history in a vibrant setting.
Editor: It sounds like a perfect blend of history and modern culture! Lastly, can you share any tips for attendees to make the most out of their night at the Late Night Museum?
Carlos Mendez: Absolutely! Come with an open mind and a spirit of adventure! I recommend checking out the schedule of activities in advance and perhaps bringing a friend or family member who can help you dive into the various experiences. And don’t forget to explore all corners of the Teatro Real; you never know what delightful surprises await around each corner!
Editor: Thank you, Carlos! This event sounds like a can’t-miss opportunity to experience culture in a whole new way. We can’t wait to see what the 2024 Late Night Museum at Teatro Real has in store!
Carlos Mendez: Thank you! We can’t wait to welcome everyone for a night to remember!
