Journalist reports on networks the increase in the sale and price of coal in Cuba due to the deficit of liquefied gas and the blackouts of more than 10 hours in most of the country’s territories. “Things are going to get worse,” he predicts.
The journalist from Camagüey, José Luis Tan Estrada, reported on his Facebook profile, the increase in the sale and price of coal in Cuba, already on sale, not only by the state, but also by private sellers and MSMEs, among of the current crisis.
In Camagüey, it has been observed that authorized individuals are selling bags of charcoal at prices ranging between 1,500 and 2,000 pesos (CUP) in different parts of the city, said the reporter on the aforementioned social network.
This sale, which is carried out sporadically, could be interpreted as an indication that the economic situation and access to basic resources could deteriorate even further in the near future on the island, according to Tan Estrada.
For months it has been known that the gas shortage and blackouts on the island have led many “ordinary Cubans” to look for alternatives, such as cooking with charcoal, to face the crisis.
Sale and price of coal in Cuba
«Private individuals (authorized) are selling bags of coalfrom 1500-2000 pesos (CUP), in various parts of the city of Camaguey. When they are allowing it, it is a sign that things are going to get worse,” the reporter explained about the sale and price of coal in Cuba in the midst of the crisis.
Additionally, local authorities reported that there is currently no availability of liquefied gas in the province.
This lack of supply generated uncertainty among residents, who are not clear about when the sale of this essential fuel will resume.
The combination of the growing sale of coal and the absence of liquefied gas highlights the difficulties faced by the Camagüey and Cuban population in their daily lives. Recently the Minister of Energy reported on the purchase of liquefied gas, although only a part.
