HAVANA, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) — An exhibition highlighting Cuba’s advances in science, technology and innovation was inaugurated Thursday at the Havana Convention Center, where the Group’s summit begins this Friday of the 77 plus China (G77+China).

The exhibition, entitled “Current development challenges: the role of science, technology and innovation”, shows through posters the successes of the Caribbean country in these areas, which will be the main themes of this summit of two days. Examples of Cuban achievements in biotechnology, education and environment are also exhibited on the same occasion.

“This exhibition shows the development in science, innovation and technology in our country over the past six decades,” Teresita Vicente, head of cultural and academic relations at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told Xinhua.

“I am convinced that development will not be possible if the countries of the South do not take into account science, technology and innovation,” noted Ms. Vicente.

Created in 1964, the G77 is the largest intergovernmental organization of developing countries within the United Nations. Today, it brings together 134 member countries, or more than two thirds of the UN member countries. END
