This Tuesday several Cubans reported an alleged strike on the Havana-Artemisa train due to non-payments of regarding two months. The Artemisa Transportation Directorate issued an official statement on Wednesday without mentioning the word strike.
“On the followingnoon of May 9, the rail service from the Artemisa–Havana Station was canceled due to the negligence of the crew members belonging to Antillana de Acero.”
“The Union of Cuban Railways, together with the authorities of the province, created a commission to investigate the causes and conditions that originated this unfortunate incident and apply the corresponding organizational and disciplinary measures, so that events like these are not repeated.”
“The decision was made to transfer the passengers who were at said station by bus and the conditions were created to restore the rail service at the established times. We apologize for the inconvenience caused and the measures adopted will be reported in a timely manner,” the brief concluded. statement posted on a Facebook group.
The Municipal Administration of Artemisa added that “in addition to what was previously explained, political, governmental and administrative authorities of the territory appeared at the Station of our municipality, which we exchanged opinions with the passengers who until that moment were being affected by the crew of machinists of the Antillana de Acero (provider of this service contracted with the UEB Ferrocarriles Occidente)”.

The leaders of Artemisa and the official media avoid mentioning the word strike in what happened on the Artemisa-Havana train.
