The first group of the Cuban delegation that participated in the XIX Pan American Games in Santiago 2023 returned to the homeland in the early hours of this Friday, reports JIT.
Leading the game were gold medalists Leuris Pupo (sports shooting) and Arley Calderón (weightlifting), Cuba’s first champions in these Games.
The group was received at the José Martí International Airport by the first vice president of Inder, Raúl Fornés Valenciano; the director of training and improvement, Yoselín Ramiro; the director of sports organization and programming, Agustín Abril; and the school director, Reynier Olivera Matos.
“You have made the country vibrate, because those who did not obtain the metal medals, obtained the medal of valor, because many overcame their own results and established national records,” Fornés highlighted.
And he added that “everyone feel like champions of the Cuban people and the country, they returned with the main medal, which was the medal of dignity, the one that Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz always asked of us and is what makes Cubans proud.” ».

The first champion of the Island in the multi-sports festival, weightlifter Arley Calderón, representing the athletes, emphasized: “the Cuban delegation that participated in Santiago 2023 declares that the purpose of competing faithful to the fighting tradition of our people has been fulfilled, by “We appreciate the many expressions of affection.”
This segment of the Caribbean representation was made up of more than 106 people including athletes, coaches and federations of weightlifting, sports shooting, swimming, diving, badminton, artistic gymnastics, rowing, racquetball, tennis and taekwondo.
