Cuba, UAE and Brazil join together to deliver food aid worth 50 million dollars 2024-02-14 23:07:02

The United Arab Emirates (UAE), Brazil and Cuba have agreed on a cooperation initiative during the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).

This initiative aims to improve food security and is committed to providing food aid worth 50 million US dollars, which will be sent from Brazil, it needs the Minrex site in Cuba.

The initiative is part of a joint effort to “develop resilient food systems, promote sustainable agriculture and encourage climate action.”

According to the information provided, the UAE will provide financial support to improve the resilience and adaptability of food systems and increase investments in projects specialized in the production, distribution and support of nutritious, healthy and sustainable food systems.

Reem Bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, said that this initiative will help safeguard the environment and limit the impacts of climate change affecting food producers. She also highlighted the UAE’s commitment to sustainability and renewable energy.

CUBA: FOOD SECURITY

For his part, the Director of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency, Ambassador Ruy Pereira, expressed the joint willingness of Brazil, the UAE and Cuba to collaborate to support the food and nutritional security of the Cuban population.

The COP28 UAE Declaration on Food Systems, Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Action was endorsed by 150 countries and raised more than US$85 billion in funding.

As host of the G20 in 2024, Brazil is confident that this joint initiative with the UAE and Cuba is aligned with the three axes that guide the presidency for the time Brazilian part of the group and will contribute to promoting food sovereignty and security proposed by Brazil.
