Cuba Tightens the Screws on Auto Parts Imports: Tires, Windshields, and More

Through Resolution 175/2022 “Rules for non-commercial imports by natural persons and the List of Reference Values”, Cuban Customs increased the quantities allowed for the importation of most items that are cleared by their value and not by their weight.

Chapter 8 of that regulation, motor vehicles, their parts, pieces and accessories, contains a specific rule that establishes:

“Cuban Customs allows the importation as luggage of up to two (2) electric mopeds with up to two seats, or one (1) by shipment. In addition, the importation of parts and accessories for motor vehicles is permitted, provided that the legislation allows it and that the quantity does not exceed what is necessary for the repair and maintenance of a vehicle.”

It also specifies that in the case of “kits or sets” of parts, up to five (5) sets are authorized, provided that one of each type is imported and that the number of units per set does not exceed what is necessary for the repair of a vehicle. Regarding gaskets, up to two (2) sets of each type are accepted.

In relation to pieces whose weight does not exceed five (5) kilograms, the value-weight alternative can be applied, provided they are diverse.

Regarding tires and rims, you should know that up to five (5) units can be imported for light cars, up to seven (7) for heavy vehicles and up to three (3) for motorcycles or mopeds.
