In an effort to revitalize its tourism industry and strengthen ties with Mexico, Cuba has announced a new strategy aimed at attracting more Mexican visitors.
This initiative includes the digitalization of visa procedures, simplifying the process of entering the island, and the introduction of tourist packages, reported the site Excellencies Cuba.
The Cuban ambassador to Mexico, Marcos Rodríguez Costa, highlighted the island’s readiness to welcome Mexican tourists. “Cuba is ready to offer unforgettable moments to our Mexican visitors,” said Rodríguez Costa at a recent event reported by La Jornada.
The “Cuba Única” campaign was presented as part of this strategy, highlighting the uniqueness of the island as a tourist destination. Xonia Beltrán, tourism advisor at the Cuban embassy in Mexico, highlighted the importance of this initiative as a window to explore the authenticity of Cuba.

Mexican airlines are expected to play a crucial role in this strategy, improving connectivity between the two countries.
Aeroméxico, Viva Aerobús and Magnicharters have been recognized for their contribution to this effort. “We are working to increase the presence of Mexican tourists in Cuba, a priority objective for our government,” said Rodríguez Costa.
Electronic visa for Cuba
Beltrán also announced that Mexican tourists no longer need to apply for a visa in person. They can now apply online up to 72 hours before their trip, for 575 pesos, and receive approval digitally.
With these measures, Cuba seeks to increase the flow of tourists from Mexico, which urgently needs to maximize its income from foreign visitors.
Recently, the Cuban government announced the decision that from August 1st everything will be possible to pay in Cuba with the Canadian dollar or with debit and credit cards from Canadian banks. This is the island’s first issuing market.
