It should be noted that these earthquakes are the 13th and 14th recorded so far this year. They occurred mid-morning by the National Center for Seismological Research (Cenais) in the vicinity of the municipality of Pilón, in Granma.
Cenais indicated that it had reported 300 aftershocks of these events, of which fifteen were noticeable.
President Miguel Díaz-Canel called on the residents of Granma and Santiago de Cuba to go out and stay in open places. The first and essential thing is to save lives.
He also specified that the damage is being evaluated to begin recovery.
“We have gone through difficult days, but we will recover, no matter how complicated it is, we will get up,” he said.

Through state television, the lighthouse in the coastal town of Cabo Cruz (Granma), which is more than 150 years old, has suffered cracks and fissures in various parts of its structure.
The provincial authorities have asked the population to remain calm, prudent and disciplined, and comply with the established measures, such as concentrating on the ground floor of tall buildings and open spaces.
Through social networks, residents of the areas where these tremors have been felt have shared their impressions of being surprised to see the movement of furniture and objects in their homes.
The eastern part of the island is still recovering from the impact of Hurricane Oscar, which occurred three weeks ago, and from the intense rain storms of recent days, when it was affected by these new events.

How can the community provide emotional support to those experiencing fear and anxiety after the earthquakes in Cuba?
**Short Interview on Recent Earthquakes in Cuba**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today. We’re discussing the recent earthquakes that struck eastern and central Cuba, which were notably intense. Can you share what your initial thoughts are on the situation?
**Guest:** Thank you for having me. It’s certainly a concerning situation. The 6.0 and 6.7 magnitude earthquakes that occurred were significant, especially considering the region is already recovering from severe weather conditions like Hurricane Oscar. The preliminary reports show both structural damage and disruption to utilities, but thankfully, no fatalities or serious injuries have been reported so far.
**Interviewer:** That’s a relief to hear. What do you think the immediate next steps should be for the government and local authorities?
**Guest:** The top priority, as emphasized by President Miguel Díaz-Canel, is ensuring the safety of the residents. He called for people to stay in open areas, which is crucial during aftershocks. The government needs to conduct thorough assessments of the damage, particularly to homes and public buildings, so they can start planning recovery efforts. Clear communication and support for those affected will be vital in the days ahead.
**Interviewer:** There have been reports of significant aftershocks—over 300 were recorded. How should residents prepare for these aftershocks?
**Guest:** Residents should remain vigilant. The advice includes staying away from heavy furniture, securing loose items in their homes, and identifying safe spots both indoors and outdoors. Additionally, it’s important for families to have a plan in place should the seismic activity continue, including what to do in case of an evacuation.
**Interviewer:** Many residents have also shared their surprise and fear during the earthquakes, stating that furniture and objects were moved during the tremors. How can emotional support be provided to those affected?
**Guest:** Emotional support is crucial during such traumatic events. Community centers can offer counseling services, and local support groups should be encouraged to help residents share their experiences and feelings. It’s important for everyone affected to feel they’re not alone and that there are avenues to express their fears and concerns.
**Interviewer:** Thank you for your insights. Is there anything else you would like to add regarding the recovery process?
**Guest:** Just that while the road to recovery may be long and difficult, communities often come together in the face of adversity. It’s essential to foster that spirit of resilience and cooperation, as well as ensuring that resources are available to aid in the rebuilding efforts. We can get through this together.
**Interviewer:** Thank you for your time and valuable information. We hope for a swift recovery for all those impacted.
