The Cuban government fears Trump’s victory in the elections.

In a recent interview with CBS NewsCuba’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Fernández de Cossío, expressed concern regarding the possibility of new economic sanctions being imposed on Cuba if former President Donald Trump is elected in November.

During the Trump presidency, the United States adopted a more aggressive stance toward Cuba, reversing the Obama administration’s attempts to normalize relations with Havana.

“Of course we are concerned that there will be new economic measures [contra] Cuba, regardless of who wins the election. The Biden administration has very faithfully implemented the policies put in place by the Trump administration and added some,” he said.

“So we wouldn’t be surprised if they did. It would be unfair, and we believe it would be immoral, but we have to recognize that that might happen and [eso] “It gives us cause for concern,” he told the media.

Donald Trump protests in Cuba

After the last protests in Cubaformer President Trump indicated that the leadership in Cuba might “change” if he is re-elected in November.

“I want to express my admiration and support for all the brave people of Cuba, who are rising up once morest the vile communist regime,” said Trump in a video posted on Truth Social. “It’s not easy, but it’s going to change.”

The former president stated that under the “brutal” Cuban government, “the people suffer terrible food shortages, energy blackouts, poverty, political repression and religious persecution.”

“I want the people of Cuba to know that we are watching very closely what is happening in Santiago, watching it every minute of the day,” he said. “We are with you. Under my administration, we will once once more be very strong once morest the oppressors.”

While president, the Trump administration once more designated Cuba as a “state sponsor of terrorism.” Likewise, during his government, flights to Cuba were restricted only to the Havana airport. Additionally, Western Union closed its offices in Cuba in 2020 and limits were imposed on remittances to the island.
