Cuba confirms its first case of monkeypox in an Italian tourist in critical condition

The Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) has confirmed the first case of monkeypox or simian in the country in an Italian tourist who is very seriously ill.

The man is “in critical condition, life-threatening“, MINSAP has made known in a press release collected by Granma.

The tourist arrived in the country on August 15 and, during the following two days, visited several places in western provinces of the country.

The day August 17 began to present symptoms of the disease and the next day he went to the health services due to their persistence.

During the first medical attention the symptoms worsened, so required urgent transfer for hospitalization and intensive treatment, arriving at the hospital in cardiorespiratory arrestfrom which he recovered, although he is still in intensive care.

“Deepens in epidemiological research and focus control actions are performedas provided for in the approved protocol to deal with this disease in the country,” the statement added.
