**Interview with Dr. Maria Torres, Meteorologist at the Cuban Institute of Meteorology (INSMET)**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Dr. Torres. Can you explain what led to the declaration of the information phase for 10 provinces in Cuba regarding the tropical storm?
**Dr. Torres:** Certainly! The National General Staff of the Civil Defense declared the information phase in response to the expected formation of a tropical cyclone. We’ve been monitoring a low-pressure area in the Caribbean that has shown significant organization and an increased likelihood of developing into a fully-fledged tropical storm within the next 12 to 24 hours.
**Interviewer:** Which provinces are currently under this alert, and what does the information phase entail for residents there?
**Dr. Torres:** The information phase includes the provinces of Camagüey, Ciego de Ávila, Sancti Spíritus, Cienfuegos, Villa Clara, and several western territories such as Matanzas, Mayabeque, Havana, Artemisa, Pinar del Río, along with the Isla de la Juventud. This phase is primarily a precautionary measure that provides timely information to residents, urging them to stay informed and prepared for possible developments.
**Interviewer:** What conditions are contributing to the development of this tropical cyclone?
**Dr. Torres:** The current environmental conditions are quite favorable for cyclone formation. We are experiencing high sea temperatures and significant atmospheric humidity, which provide the energy and moisture needed for storms to develop and intensify.
**Interviewer:** What actions should individuals and families take as they prepare for the possibility of this storm?
**Dr. Torres:** We urge everyone in the affected provinces to stay updated with official weather alerts and instructions from local authorities. It’s a good time to secure property, prepare emergency kits, and have an evacuation plan in place if necessary. Community preparedness is key to ensuring safety during these weather events.
**Interviewer:** Thank you for your insights, Dr. Torres. We appreciate the vital information and advice you’ve shared.
**Dr. Torres:** Thank you for having me. It’s important that we all stay informed and prepared as we navigate this hurricane season together.
