Chennai: Chennai Super Kings will have the highest number of fans in the stadiums to watch the matches in the 16th season of IPL. All the home matches at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepok had a packed gallery. Moreover, even CSK’s away matches are thronged with Chennai Super Kings fans. Fans witnessed many CSK fans returning without tickets for the matches in Chepok. With this, the BCCI and the Tamil Nadu Cricket Board are taking a crucial decision before the two play-off matches to be held in Chepauk.
All the matches saw long queues before the matches in Chepok. Day and night, women and children queued for hours for tickets. Apart from this, there were incidents of CSK tickets reaching the black market. As online tickets sold out fast, fans were scrambling for offline tickets. There were also reports that women and students were made to buy tickets by black market fraudsters by keeping them in queues. With this, they got a commission of up to 800 rupees per ticket. In the black market, however, these tickets are sold for five thousand rupees and upwards.
The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association and BCCI have decided to sell the tickets for the two play-off matches to be held in Chepauk entirely online. The first qualifier will be held on May 23 and the eliminator on May 24 in Chepok. Both the matches will start at 7:30 PM IST.
