This Friday, Crystal Palace sacked its French coach Patrick Vieira following 18 months at the helm of the south London club. The 1998 world champions’ side had gleaned just 8 points from their last 13 Premier League games and did not find their stride following the World Cup.
As proof, the Londoners did not win in 2023 in all competitions. Twelfth in the Championship, the Eagles are only three points from the relegation zone and have played one game more than Bournemouth (18th) and Leeds (19th).
After being dismissed from his role at the end of 2020 with OGC Nice, Vieira replaced Roy Hodgson in the summer of 2021 and guided Palace to 12th place in the Premier League last season. Three members of Vieira’s coaching staff (Osian Roberts, Kristian Wilson and Saïd Aigoun) also left the club.
Chairman Steve Parish said: It is with great regret that this difficult decision has been made. Ultimately, the results of recent months have left us in a precarious position in the league and we felt a change was needed to give us the best chance of retaining our place in the Premier League. »
